On the other hand, the concentration of total plasma homocysteine (Hcy) is a well-established indicator for the risk of cardiovascular disease and seems to be related to ethanol consumption. So, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of acute (70%) and chronic (10%) exposure to evaporated ethanol on: 1-brain leptin and Hcy concentration on the 15th day of embryonic development of chick. 2brain leptin and Hcy concentration immediately after hatch of chick and 3serum leptin concentration immediately after hatch of chick. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study 60 fertilized eggs were used. Eggs were divided into control; acute exposure to ethanol and chronic exposure to ethanol. Hcy was measured by using enzyme-linked assay and leptin was measured with the chick leptin radioimmunoassay kit. Results: Data showed brain Hcy concentration on the 15th day of embryonic stage of chicken that acute and chronic exposure to ethanol significantly (p<0.05) decreased, but did not have any effect on brain Hcy concentration immediately after hatch in chicken that acute and chronic exposure to ethanol during embryonic stages. Acute and chronic exposure to ethanol during embryonic stages significantly (p<0.05) increased brain leptin on the 15th day of embryonic stage, brain leptin immediately after hatch of chicken and plasma leptin immediately after hatch of chicken. Conclusion: Present results indicated that acute and chronic exposure to ethanol by evaporation in embryonic stage of chicken can change the brain Hcy, brain leptin and serum leptin. Acute and sub-chronic toxicological evaluation of ethanol extract of Solanum trilobatum Linn.
Background and objectives: Solanum trilobatum plant parts such as berries and flowers are normally used for the treatment of respiratory illnesses. The toxicity profile of the plant and its parts are not clear. Hence, the present study was planned to investigate the toxicological effects of ethanol extract of leaves of S. trilobatum (EEST) using acute and sub-...
متن کاملEffect of acute exposure to ethanol on distribution of NR1 subunit of NMDA receptor of glutamate in cerebral cortex of chick embryo
Introduction: There is considerable evidence that glutamate-mediated excitatory neurotransmission plays an important role in mediating the behavioral actions of acutely administered ethanol. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of acute ethanol exposure on NR1 subunit of NMDA (n-methyl-d-aspartate) receptor distribution in the cerebral cortex of chick embryo on the 10th...
متن کاملGinger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) extract can improve the levels of some trace elements and total homocysteine and prevent oxidative damage induced by ethanol in rat eye
Objective: Acute and chronic ethanol consumption cause oxidative stress and ginger improves suchconditions. In this study, the protective effects of ginger were studied on indices of oxidative stress, total homocysteinelevel and the level of the some of the oxidative stress-associated trace elements against toxicity induced by ethanol in rat eye. Materials and Met...
متن کاملThe effects of acute, sub-chronic and chronic psychical stress on the brain electrical activity in male rats
Introduction: Stress is a main factor influencing brain functions as revealed by the electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings. Moreover, different stress durations seemingly cause perturbations in brain waves and lead to mental disorders. This study investigates the effects of acute, sub-chronic and chronic stress on EEG in rats. Methods: Twenty-eight Wistar adult male rats were randomly all...
متن کاملInfluence of Copper Oxide Nanoparticle on Hematology and Plasma Biochemistry of Caspian Trout (Salmo trutta caspius), Following Acute and Chronic Exposure
The Caspian trout is an endangered and quite vulnerable fish, considered for a natural protection program in the southern area of the Caspian Sea. Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) are toxic substances, which induce oxidative stress, not to mention other pathophysiological states. The toxicity of nanoparticles on fish needs more characterization for short- and long-term effects. Thus, the p...
